THE ROYAL FAMILY has historically relied on nannies to assist them in raising their children while handling their hectic royal schedules, and Prince William and Kate Middleton are no different. So who is the nanny for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, and why is one word forbidden around the Cambridge children?
Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, who is she?
Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo has been the Cambridge family’s nanny since 2014, shortly after Prince George’s birth.
Ms Borrallo has now aided in the care of George’s younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and she often appears in background shots of the Royal Family.
Ms Borrallo routinely travels with the Cambridge family on royal events and foreign trips to assist in supervising the royal infants, and she has received significant training for the task.
Where did Ms Borrallo get her nanny training?
Ms Borrallo was born in Spain and attended Norland College, a Bath-based educational institution renowned for its superior childcare training.
Norland nannies, founded in 1892, are recognized by their brown uniforms, brogues, and hats and are hired in the families of the world’s wealthiest and most renowned individuals.
George, Charlotte, and Louis are believed to spend time with Ms Borrallo exploring the great outdoors, as well as engaging in domestic activities such as cooking and baking.
Borrallo began her career with the royal family in 2014
The 40-something from Palencia, Spain, apparently joined the household of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in March of that year, when George was just eight months old. She made her first public appearance with the family during Will and Kate’s trip to Australia and New Zealand with a newborn Prince George.
She is a graduate of Norland College
Norland, located in Bath, is well-known for teaching the caretakers of some of the country’s most illustrious families. The school’s over 125-year-old students get instruction in traditional child raising practices, as well as cooking and sewing techniques, as well as self-defense and first-aid training.
“The nannies are taught everything from defensive driving to security issues to how to care for a future king or queen,” royal analyst Victoria Murphy told ABC News soon after Princess Charlotte was born. “So [Borrallo] just really knows everything that you could possibly need to know about bringing up a child.”
Graduating students from the three-year institution are often seen in brown uniforms. While none of Prince William’s childhood caregivers attended Norland, members of the royal family, notably Princess Anne, have in the past employed nannies from the school.
Borrallo is in the process of teaching her charges Spanish.
Princess Charlotte is now studying Spanish with Borrallo, while Duchess Kate confirmed in May 2017 during a visit to Wick Court in Gloucestershire that George allegedly understands the fundamentals of the language as well. She helps Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis retain a feeling of normality.
When you hire a nanny or hire a manny, you don’t need to hire a tutor or hire a governess separately as domestic staffing.
